Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on this day of [todaysdate]

All three of James Potter’s childhood friends appear together (in life) only in this story: Remus Lupin (Mooney), Sirius Black (Padfoot), and Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail). James also appears in the movie in a picture (in fact, James and Lily Potter appear in all the movies).

Sirius’ escape from Azkaban resembles the escape of the fictional character Edmond Dantès from the French island prison of the Château d’If in Alexander Dumas’ classic story, The Count of Monte Cristo.

Some people believe that Dumas’ story was based on the real-life false imprisonment and rise to wealth of Pierre Picaud, whose story was recorded by a French police archivist in the early 1800s. The details of the prison escape were supposedly provided by the ghost of a Priest whom Picaud had befriended in prison.

Monsieur Dumas also wrote The Three Musketeers and its two sequels,Twenty Years After and The Vicomte de Bragelonne, detailing the life and adventures of D’Artagnan and his friends Athos, Porthos, and Aramis.

The friendship between James, Remus, Sirius, and Peter is somewhat similar to that between D’Artagnon and the three musketeers.

Dumas’ books are loosely based on the life of a real French soldier named Charles de Batz-Castelmore, Comte d’Artagnan.

Harry’s last name, Potter, is derived from an old French word, potier.

Remus’ last name, Lupin, is a French word meaning ‘wolf-like’.

Some people have suggested that Pettigrew might be derived from the French petit grue (little horror) or petit garou (little were-beast).
