Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was the first book in the series an almost completely re-embodied Lord Voledemort. It is also the only book in which the largest number of Weasley children attend Hogwarts together (Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginnie).

In the second book (and movie) we’re introduced to the Whomping Willow, which features prominently in the third book (and movie). We also meet Dobby the House-elf in the second book, but though he appears in the movie Dobby does not return for later movies. We see Kreacher the House-elf in the movie “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”.

Gone from the first film is Professor Hooch, reputedly because actress Zoe Wanamaker demanded better pay for the actors in the films. Madam Hooch does appear in the book.

Sir Richard Harris, who had signed on to play Professor Dumbledore with the intention of playing the character through all seven films, died soon after completing the second movie. He was replaced by actor Michael Gambon.

Gilderoy Lockhart, one of the main “guest” characters in this book, returned briefly in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (the book) but he does not appear in the movie.

Arthur Weasley makes his first appearance in this story.

Ginnie Weasley’s feelings for Harry first appear in this book. Voldemort’s diary uses her infatuation with Harry to draw her into its power.

Ron’s affinity for Hermione begins to appear in this book when he misses her after she is petrified by the basilisk.
